Our goal: Convert the outer travel lanes of NE MLK Jr Blvd into on-street parking and safer sidewalks so nearby businesses can thrive and the street becomes more people-friendly. Our street should be a neighborhood main street and not a thoroughfare.
NE MLK Jr Blvd is currently a 4–5 lane stroad that prioritizes vehicle speed over local businesses and pedestrians. "Revitalize MLK" is a volunteer-led effort to pilot curbside parking on the outer lanes, calm traffic, and activate the street with pop-up events and business support. Volunteers are currently helping with outreach, design mockups, and advocacy.
Should MLK have parking all the time or only outside of rush hour?
Can MLK get more crosswalks installed if the street is narrowed?
How quickly can businesses benefit from these changes?
How can we prevent cut-through traffic on neighboring streets?
